Teams Update – Ladies Intermediate Team win Silver Medals in Knightsbrook

The Ladies Intermediate Team won silver medals in Knightsbrook in the All Ireland Final against East Cork on Saturday 17 September.

The team won their Quarter Final match against Mount Wolseley on Thursday and then had another good win in their Semi Final match against Adare Manor on Friday.

The Final on Saturday was played in glorious September sunshine and Edmondstown put in a great performance against a very strong East Cork team. The match was level at two all and the deciding match went all the way to the 17th hole, with East Cork sinking a great putt to win the match.

Second in Ireland is a terrific achievement for Edmondstown. We are so proud of all the players, caddies and substitutes as well as manager, Anne Hiney, for their commitment over a long season.

The All Ireland series will continue with the Ladies Revive Fourball team playing their Semi Final in Athlone on Saturday 1 October.

Teams Update – Ladies Junior Foursomes and Ladies Revive Fourball

We are delighted to congratulate our Ladies Junior Foursomes on winning All Ireland bronze medals in Tramore on 2 September.

The team had a great win in their Quarter Final match against Rathdowney and this was followed by a tightly fought Semi Final against Tralee. The match came down to the wire and unfortunately Tralee won on the 21st hole in the deciding match. Our team played to a very high standard and we thank all the players, substitutes and managers for their commitment and great golf.

Congratulations to the Ladies Revive Fourball team that defeated Moate in their Quarter Final match on Saturday 3 September in Nenagh in another epic battle.  This was fantastic result and the team will now go on to the All Ireland Semi Final in Athlone on 1 October.

Ladies Inter Club Teams – UPDATE

Our Inter Club teams have had a fantastic summer, winning three Leinster South Pennants so far. The next challenge will be the All Ireland Finals taking place over the coming weeks, details as follows:

1-3 September Tramore:

First up, our Junior Foursomes team heads to Tramore for its Quarter Final match on Thursday 1 September, the Semi Final is on 2 September and Final on 3 September.

3 September Nenagh:

Our Revive Fourball team will have its Quarter Final match in Nenagh on Saturday 3 September. The Semi Final and Final of this competition takes place in Athlone from 29-30 September.

15-17 September Knightsbrook:

The Intermediate team will be in Knightsbrook for its Quarter Final match on Thursday 15 September, with the Semi Final and Final taking place on 16 & 17 September.

These teams have played wonderful golf against strong opposition and we wish them every success when they go to the All Ireland Final series of matches.

Congratulations to all the players, subs, caddies and managers, Edmondstown is immensely proud of all you have achieved this year.

Pierce Purcell team going to the all-Ireland finals 23/08/22

25 years ago, a talented Metropolitan Cup team won Edmondstown’s first Men’s Senior golf Ireland (GUI in old money) Pennant. On Sunday Last an equally talented Pierce Purcell Team repeated the feat (our 2nd I am reliably told) on the challenging west-course in Powerscourt.

You can be proud of this team, because not only did they have a comprehensive victory with no match going beyond the 15th, but they also won the respect of the opposition for both their standard of play and conduct. Simon Keogh is particularly to be commended for calling a penalty on himself, which only he was aware of… and fittingly they won that hole.

Hats off to the expert management team led by the unflappable John Rafferty backed up the equally capable Bob Hickey and Larry O’Toole. A validation of the structures put in place by Michael White, Mark Edwards and others to make our teams more competitive.

Congratulations to all concerned.

Good to see a lot of Edmondstown support present to help make it the occasion it was.

The Pierce Purcell team now join the ladies intermediate team in the all-Ireland finals in knightsbrook Golf Club on September 15th-17th.

“save the date” .. it is not often Edmondstown (at least in previous years) gets any team to an all-Ireland final .. In this case we have two on the same day at the same venue .. come along and support it should be a great few days.

Club representation in regional Competitions

We have an impressive list of representation in various competitions this week which is a credit to all involved.

In the Leinster Girls under 18 both Anna Abom and Evelyn Park qualified for the match play stages. Both losing out close contests to the eventual winner. Anna in the quarterfinal and Evelyn in the semi-final.

In addition, both girls and Thomas Abom have been picked for Leinster in the upcoming under 18 interprovincial. I suspect this Hat-trick by Edmondstown has not been done before so congratulations to all involved.

Thomas Abom, Ben Edwards, and Patrick Curran are playing in the Munster boys under-18/17 in Fermoy … 2nd round today.

Fionnan o’Connor Plays today in Ulster Boys Under 16 event in Bangor.

Finally Laim Abom and Lurcan o’Connor play their 2nd round today in the north of Ireland men's amateur open.

All the best to all participants and you can follow their progress through the various leader boards on the golf Ireland website.

Match results last Week

The Pierce Purcell had a comprehensive 4-1 win in their quarter final match with Arklow with home wins backed up by impressive away victories.

Unfortunately the Baron cup team finally ran out of steam against a strong Wicklow team losing 1:4.

On Monday, the junior cup team lost a Nail biter 2:3 to Carrickmines with the deciding away match finishing on the 21st Hole. Late call up Peter Heeran did exceptionally well to keep our hopes up for so long.

A depleted Clancy team acquitted themselves well last weekend in Glasgow with Kiki Kahan winning the Glasgow Cup (runner up in the gross competition) for the third time in a row. A singularly impressive record for Kiki.

Match results last Week

Unfortunately the Senior Cup team lost their Quarter final 2-3 against a very strong Hermitage side with the 2 home matches been decided on the 18th and 19th Hole by both sides simultaneous (almost) holing out from off the green for a Win and A Loss. It was that close … on to next year for this talented team.

The Barton cup team had a comprehensive victory (3.5 - 1.5) against Black Bush anchored by a Fathers Day 3&2 away victory by the Edwards Pairing. This looks like a strong team expertly managed by Seamus and Gerry and could go far.

Match scheduled for next 2 weeks.

Men’s Inter-Club Team News

The sensational news of the week does not come from the men's section, but we all bask in the reflected glory of the achievements of young Anna Abom in the AIG Irish Women’s Close Championship.

A more than creditable qualification in tied 7th place was followed by 3 match Play victories against the top seeded players to reach the lofty heights of the last 4.

In the Semi-final she gave the eventual winner her toughest match of the tournament, losing out on the 18th green by the narrowest of margins.

Well done Anna … we look forward in anticipation to your future success in the golfing world.

To continue the good news both the all Ireland Mixed (3:2) and Pierce Purcell teams (3:2) had excellent victories in the cold (or is it just me) against very strong opposition. Both Teams staged impressive comebacks to win … A good sign in itself

Yesterday the 12 Old Conna Seniors, expertly managed by Pat Hanratty & Co, came up just short in an away match against a formidable Druids Heath team.

Match scheduled for next 2 weeks.

Men’s Inter-Club team News – 01/06/2022

Last week was, I am glad to report, a winning one with two wins and one loss.

The loss was on Monday last when the Super Seniors came up short in their bid to qualify for the next stage. In an away match, well supported by Edmondstown members and played in good spirit and enjoyed by all, which is the hallmark of this competition, the pairings came up against an inspired and inform Foxrock team. Onward to next year.

On Sunday a similarly inspired junior cup team had an excellent victory against our neighbours and arch rivals Grange. Winning two matches away, against strong opposition, was the cornerstone of a truly strong team performance.

On Saturday, an equally impressive senior cup team had a great victory against Lucan. A strong performance home and away has now set up a finely balanced and eagerly awaited contest against a perennially strong Hermitage team in the next round.

Thanks to all team members and managers for their commitment to the “Cause” and to the much-appreciated others who supported at various times

Match results last week.

Senior Cup                                 v     Lucan                      Won  3.5 – 1.5

Junior Cup                                  v     Grange                     Won   3 - 2

Super seniors                             v     Foxrock                   Lost   0 – 5

Match schedule this week

Fred Daly  v  Castle       Sunday  3 home 2 away ( 3:00 PM)

Good luck to our under 18 boys playing in the Fred Daly this week. They would really appreciate your support, especially the away matches.

Interclub News 25-05-22

We were thrilled with the great win for our wonderful Challenge Team in their match against Elm Park on Monday. Well done to Team Captain, Mags Casey and all the players, subs and caddies.

Inter-club News 17-05-22

Another fantastic weekend of golf for the ladies, saw our Junior F/S achieve a resounding victory over Dun Laoghaire to go through to quarter finals.

Equally great match saw the Minor Cup team beat Stackstown to progress to round 3, well done managers Susan Conway, Libby Delap and players.

The Senior cup managed by Fiona Abom produced some amazing golf but unfortunately were up against tough competition in Castle .

Next week we have just one match the Challenge Cup v Elm Park on Monday 23th at 3pm. Good Luck Mags Casey and team.

Last Saturday saw a strong Men’s Bloom Cup team just come up short in a tough away assignment against Dun Laoghaire. Matches were always close with the lead changing hole by hole. But ultimately, we lost out 2 – 3. Hard luck to all in what was a great day in the mountains.

Likewise later that day the men’s Jimmy Bruen also had a hard fought battle with the Castle Before losing 1.5 to 3.5. The final score line does not reflect how close Edmondstown came to winning with a late flight back bringing two matches to the 18th at home. The commitment to the cause from both players and management was evident to see and the sizable home support added to the occasion.

nter-Club News 09-05-22

Last weekend saw our Elm Park Super Seniors and Fred Perry teams in action. The Super Seniors had a hard-fought battle against Lisheen Springs which ended in a 3:2 victory for Edmondstown. This now puts us in 3rd place in our group after 2 rounds, but only 0.5 off the lead. We have matches against Rathfarnham and Foxrock still to be played. Unfortunately, the Fred Perry team lost 1.5 to 3.5 against Blainroe. Every match was very tight all going to the 18th hole, but we just came out on the wrong side of the result. It was a great effort from the team so well done to all.

As we look forward to the week ahead, we kick off Bloom Cup and Jimmy Bruen. Bloom Cup matches are all away at Dun Laoghaire from 12:00 on Saturday and Jimmy Bruen have a 14:30 tee time for away matches and a 16:00 tee time for home matches against Castle.

The Ladies Section had 3 matches this week. On Thursday a great win in the All Ireland Fourball (Revive) against Foxrock, well done to Elaine and team!

The Bloom & Boyne played on Saturday and Sunday against Stackstown & Milltown but were not so lucky.

The Boyne coming down to a nail biting finish on the 18th hole in Milltown, a super display of golf by all the players.

Good luck this coming weekend to round two of our Junior Foursomes on Saturday versus Dun Laoghaire, Sunday the Senior Cup versus Castle GC and The Minor Cup versus Stackstown.

Good luck to all our teams playing this week. They would really appreciate your support.

Inter-Club News 03-05-22

We had a busy weekend of Inter-Club golf this May Bank Holiday Weekend.

We had another great win for the Ladies, with our Intermediate team, winning against Dun Laoghaire with a very exciting last match won on the 20th hole in Dun Laoghaire.

For the Men, the Bank Holiday weekend started with Best Cup team losing against Newlands on Thursday, however, All Ireland Fourball had a great win in an exciting match with terrible conditions on Saturday with 3 away games going down the 18th and darkness looming. On Sunday, the JB Carr team lost their second-round match away at Slade Valley in a very close match with a very high standard of golf played, whilst on Monday, our Senior Cup team had a fantastic 4:1 win against Killiney which was a much closer match than the final score suggests.

As we look forward to the coming week, Super Seniors have their second match against Lisheen Springs on Thursday at 11am and Fred Perry are up for their first-round match against Blainroe on Friday. Ladies All Ireland F/B play Foxrock on Thursday, the return leg of the Bloom Cup vs. Stackstown is at home on Sunday and the Boyne Trophy vs. Milltown is on Monday 9th May.

Good luck to all our teams playing this week. They would really appreciate your support.

Inter-Club News – 25/04/2022

Our Ladies teams got off to a super start this weekend with a great win for the Junior Foursomes against Rathfarnham, they will go on to play Dun Laoghaire in the next round. Congrats to Susan Conway and her team.

The Bloom Cup in Stackstown were not so fortunate but will fight back on home ground on May 8th.

Our next match is the Intermediate Cup against Dun Laoghaire next Friday 29th at 1pm, 3 home 2 away. Good Luck to Ann Hiney and her team.

We now have a busy week and bank holiday weekend ahead of us. Men’s Best Cup first round match takes place on Thursday at 1pm at home vs. Newlands, followed by Women’s Intermediate Cup vs. Dun Laoghaire on Friday at 1pm. Men’s All Ireland Fourball have their first-round match on Saturday at 4pm away to Kilmashogue, whilst on Sunday, J.B. Carr team are up in their second-round match all away to Slade Valley. The weekend will conclude on Bank Holiday Monday with Senior Cup team up against Killiney with home matches at 3.30pm.

Good luck to all our teams participating this coming weekend. They would really appreciate your support with their campaigns. Even if just to wish them well on the first tee.

Inter-Club News – 20/04/2022

Although we have already had 2 matches complete at this point, Inter-Club Golf for Edmondstown is about to truly begin in earnest over the coming weeks. Women’s matches kick off with Bloom Cup, Junior Foursomes and Intermediate Cup matches all taking place before the end of April, whilst on the Men’s side first round matches for Best Cup, All Ireland fourball and Senior Cup take place before the end of the upcoming bank holiday weekend. In addition, our J.B. Carr team have their second round match against Slade Valley (all matches played at the away venue in this competition).

Here are upcoming Inter-Club events for the next few weeks. Our teams would really appreciate your support to kick off their campaigns. Even if just to wish them well on the first tee.

Inter-Club News – 11/04/2022

Last week, we kicked off our inter-club competitions with Elm Park Super Seniors playing against Castle Golf Club. Despite losing overall on the day, the score was 3:2 which means a valuable 2 points secured for Edmondstown in this league based competition. The next match for Super Seniors will be played by 10th June against Rathfarnham. Watch out for more details. The Men’s JB Carr team had a great result vs. Grange Castle with a 4:1 win. Congrats to Gerry Roseingrave and Bernard Nally and the JB Carr team for this great start.

Here are upcoming Inter-Club events for the next few weeks. Your support would be appreciated.
