Report of 2018 Pierce Purcell Qualifier in Stackstown 12th May.
19 teams took part in what is one of the cruellest tests of golf playing Scotch Foursomes ( you say no problem)…but its strokes …strokes and you are playing against all 19 teams knowing that to qualify you have to finish in the top four.
Alas we came close, well 4 shots in anyone’s book is close to qualifying, and 6 shots short of being the leading qualifiers.
Thank you to all 64 players who trialled this year, and we hope that despite the awful weather you enjoyed the experience.
If you jumped the first hurdle it was on to the Round Robin… a nightmare to organise but wildly competitive and it presented a first look at Stackstown.. and I think it is fair to say that everyone thought the course was presented superbly and the greens and bunkers were excellent.
A squad of 12 pairs went into the weekend qualifiers knowing that they would be called upon to do battle at some stage in the qualifying weekend.
Brian O’Grady and Pearse O’Sullivan, Joe Duffy and Stephen Alkin, Mark Edwards and David Guinnane, Philip Purcell and Munro O’Dwyer, Seamus Given/Marcus Hayes and Noel Murray/ Gerry Hiney, James McGarry and John Dunny, Gerry Cash and Tom Mc Inerney, Alan Barrett and Robin Mc Naughton, Fionan Moriarty and Craig Curran,Liam Deane and John Brophy, Robert Dunne and Kevin Maguire,
Congrats to the team for playing their heart out in the qualifier and all the squad who supported the team on Saturday.
The first semi final saw Milltown beat Druid’s Glen 3/2
The second semi final saw Stackstown beat the Grange 4/1
Congratulations to Stackstown who won the final against Milltown 4/1.
Last but not least to Noel O’Dea, Malachy Coleman, and Larry Deignan for working so hard behind the scenes.
